Official says AEB asks Russia not to raise car recycling fee ‘20

MOSCOW, Oct 7 (PRIME) -- The Association of European Businesses (AEB) has asked Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak not to raise the recycling fee on cars in 2020, an AEB representative told PRIME on Monday.

“I confirm sending of the letter to Kozak with a request not to index the recycling fee,” the official said.

The fee is designed to protect the environment by paying to recyclers for destroying old cars. The World Trade Organization (WTO) earlier demanded that Russia make local car producers and importers pay a 17,200–450,000 ruble fee, but local car manufacturers received new state subsidies when the regulation appeared.

The AEB has recently reduced the forecast for 2019 Russian imports of new car and light commercial vehicle (LCV) to 1.76 million ifrom 1.87 million.
